The United Nations has warned that Kabul is facing a deepening drinking water crisis, raising concerns over the Afghan capital‍‍`s long-term sustainability as groundwater reserves continue to decline.

According to local broadcaster TOLOnews, the UN said falling groundwater levels, rapid population growth and the impacts of climate change have placed severe pressure on Kabul‍‍`s water supply, making it one of the region‍‍`s most water-stressed cities.

Authorities said they are working to ease the crisis by implementing several large-scale water infrastructure projects aimed at improving access to safe drinking water.

Kabul has grappled with chronic water shortages for years. Despite repeated government efforts to expand water supplies, the shortage remains a major challenge for the city‍‍`s fast-growing population, the report said.
